Raveena Aurora - Asha’s Awakening
Asha’s Awakening is the latest album from the magical and ethereal artist Raveena Aurora, Sonically taking us through a roller-coaster of emotions in this album, she has managed to rebirth herself in this new Album with Bollywood & pop infused tracks such as Rush and Secret (feat. Vince Staples), while staying true to her sound and always embodying her South Asian Heritage in the visuals and soundscape of the songs on the album.
Raveena mentioned this album is a conceptual one based on a story inspired by Punjabi Folklore and Campy Sci fi films, she wrote about a Punjabi space princess named Asha, which provides a more dance fuelled tracks at the first half and a more meditative and soft feels in the second part. She wanted to make an album that is centred around feeling alive, to be able to feel joy, sensuality, anger, peace, love, the quiet moments and loud moments, because after healing comes the celebration of being alive, which is why Asha spent 1000s years meditating in space on the distant planet named Sanataan , trained by the Kamlesh aliens where she trained in spirituality and cosmic magic, ruling their as a princess eventually to come back to earth only to make peace with the fact this human form means we will forever fighting with our peace and at mercy of the beauty but also the pain of life.
Infusing her spiritual Journey in this album, with touches such as the last track being a 13 minutes guided meditation, Raveena last 3 years of making the album she realise healing is non-linear & to be human is to be perfectly imperfect in the wake of all our emotional fluxes, she really wanted to show a deep dive into the different sides of her on this album compared to her previous album “Lucid ” infusing her love for Bollywood and R&B in tracks such as “Kismet”, “Time Flies” , studying the points of intersection between the south Asian musicians and western musicians around the collaborations in the 70’s and early 2000’s.
With features like TWEAKS on “New Drugs” , Vince staples on “Rush” which is centred about Asha after her training with the peaceful cosmic aliens in highly advanced spiritual magic came back to earth after her 2000 years of training In space, she attracted an obsessive cult following around her which leads to eventual demise and track like “Asha Kisses” featuring artist Asha Puthli, Who is major influence on the artistry of Raveena.
A Personal favourite Gem on the album titled “Time flies” is a personal song to the Artist writing about the time she had an abortion, she mentioned this experience was one of the turning points of her adulthood and she wanted to write about looking back how much she grew and changed since then through her 20s, she beautifully capture the essence of this emotions and bloom a beautiful lotus flower in our hearts as we listen to this track and be a part of the emotions and feels the track Embodies.
Raveena continuous to show just how much evolution in her artistry and self-growth through her music and creativity in what she shares with her listeners and this album once proves again why her music is forever timeless.
